ᐅ Obtain quotes through intermediaries and then approach the banks directly?

Hello,

I have now received offers from various brokers. Does it make sense to contact the banks directly to get better terms, or is it not worth it?

Ps: Please only respond if you have personal experience 😉

Hello, generally brokers offer better terms. Banks sometimes shift tasks to the broker (consultation, scoring, application documents) and provide special conditions to help them position better in the market. Usually, you only have negotiating power with your main bank, which often struggles to match the terms of larger banks.

Although I have been a customer there for a long time and my family uses a significant number of financial products, the main bank couldn’t even come close to matching the terms that they themselves—though only through intermediaries—offer. Apparently, the business unit "retail branch customers" simply handles fewer financing cases than the "intermediaries" division and thus (even though within the same group) gets worse terms than the external intermediary (who, by the way, is a subsidiary of a completely different bank—but that’s just a side note :-D )

What is this actually for??

Because responses (guesses) from people who have no real experience don’t help me 😀 I wanted to keep my option open for replies like "The intermediary does the work and now you go to the main bank...." 😉

See my answer and give up your idea. The bank is not happy about a €200,000 (about $220,000) loan from Müller Lieblich but prefers steady business through Protz AG broker.

The broker made us the best offer. In addition, he helped us with several things afterwards, which was very useful. We did not have to pay him directly. He receives a commission from the chosen bank.

Be careful.

One of the basic rules in discussion forums (and common courtesy) is that you should expect answers when you ask questions. Who responds, when, and why is up to the helper. Of course, the questioner can always set their own rules (if they want to). Whether this leads to any qualitative improvement is another matter.

A sense of entitlement and all that....

I can understand him. Around here, it is quite common for specific questions to quickly turn into endless off-topic discussions that don’t help the original poster at all.

Whether his request will be considered is another matter 🙂
