5schwaben52 Aug 2016 22:24Good evening,
a few months ago, we asked the house manufacturer about a topping-out ceremony, and they said that this is no longer done with a prefabricated house.
However, several acquaintances have already brought it up, and now we are quite unsure... topping-out ceremony yes or no??? And if yes, does the construction company have to agree?
Thanks for your advice......

We had our topping-out ceremony after the structure was erected and the roof was covered.
If it’s your property, you can hold the celebration regardless of whether the construction company agrees or not. If the company doesn’t want to, there simply won’t be a traditional topping-out speech.
In my opinion, nowadays the topping-out ceremony is more for friends and neighbors than for the construction workers. They build so many houses every year; they are usually just happy when the workday is over...

We also built a timber frame house, and the team that assembled the house said that due to time pressure (one team has to set up 2 1/2 houses per week), they do not hold a topping-out ceremony with the homeowners.
We therefore held the topping-out ceremony ourselves after the house was assembled, with friends, neighbors, and family, without the construction workers.
It’s best to ask your assembly team on the first day how they usually handle this.

Doc.Schnaggls4 Aug 2016 10:02Hello,
We also built a timber frame house.
Our site manager told us something similar to what @Dindin mentioned – the builders are so busy during the construction days that they are really glad when the workday ends. For this reason, we decided to skip a traditional topping-out ceremony and instead provided our construction team with food and drinks.
After moving in, we celebrated a nice housewarming party with family, friends, and neighbors.
Best regards,
Dirk
