Hello everyone,
can anyone share information about the current quality of SCAN stoves? Has anyone had negative experiences recently or works in the industry and knows the background? According to our dealer, SCAN’s quality is no longer good...
We bought a SCAN 50 Maxi back in 2009 and were completely satisfied. Burning performance, functionality, appearance – everything was excellent. Now we are moving and need a stove with heat storage capability. Before upgrading the 50, we want to get a new one. Besides, the 50 already has a new owner within the family.
With the firm intention to buy a SCAN 83 or 85, we visited ‘our’ dealer this week. However, they no longer offer SCAN stoves. The quality had sharply declined, complaints had increased. They said they could no longer recommend SCAN in good conscience. Sales had dropped, and they parted ways with the brand. That may all be true. But it’s also possible that their profit margin is higher with other stoves right now. I don’t know.
What confuses me:
Does anyone have any information? Thanks for the help...

What confuses me:
- Why can’t I find any negative reviews online?
- And why do some dealers actually no longer stock SCAN stoves?
Does anyone have any information? Thanks for the help...

toxicmolotof12 Jan 2016 00:01Unfortunately, it’s the same everywhere: the Danes (or rather Norwegians) are not exactly low-wage countries. Consequently, the prices are somewhat higher. You already said it correctly: sales declined. Of course, you can’t compare the stove with an Eastern European product that’s sold for half the price on eBay or similar platforms. But: being cheap is trendy, unfortunately. Well, and what some sales strategists come up with by placing these quality stoves in hardware stores, only they know…
Thank you for your responses!
However, @Rübe1, I can’t really make sense of your post... What are you trying to tell me? It’s neither about the price nor a comparison with an Eastern European product (the alternatives recommended by the dealer are Olsberg, Morsö, and HWAM).
I’m just questioning his statement about SCAN stoves...

We are satisfied, built in 05/2015, and so far I haven’t noticed any rust. However, I’m not sure if 8 months is enough time to determine the presence of rust on a stove. The only drawback, which seems to be due to the stove’s design, is that the glass cleaning system doesn’t work perfectly in the upper left and right corners, so soot buildup has to be cleaned manually from time to time.

Oh man, do we always have to compare everything to the automotive industry? So, there’s a manufacturer—let’s call them Popel—who says they need to reduce their dealer network, or rather, they only want dealers who sell at least 500 new vehicles per year. Suddenly, a dealer selling 100 becomes uninteresting. So if this smaller dealer wants to keep selling Popel vehicles, they have to go through the next larger dealer (the one with 500) and buy from them instead of directly. This creates a multi-tier distribution system. The manufacturer then has only one point of contact instead of two. The problem is, the smaller dealer loses interest because the bigger dealer takes a cut of the margin. So they don’t want to sell Popel anymore but switch to selling Ria or something else.
