Hello everyone,
we are currently building and planning the exact design of our staircase.

It is decided that it will be a quarter-turn wooden staircase. Since the entire house has a straight, modern style, the staircase should match this aesthetic. Therefore, the railing will be constructed as a drywall parapet and the underside of the staircase will also be covered with drywall.

We are considering either a closed stringer wooden staircase or a "saddle" stringer staircase, each with oak treads. Our staircase builder mentioned that a closed stringer staircase works better with the drywall wall. With a saddle stringer staircase, a gap would have to be left, or cracks would constantly appear. However, our online research has shown that saddle stringer staircases combined with white drywall walls appear more modern.

Does anyone have experience with using drywall as a parapet and a similar type of wooden staircase? What are your experiences and opinions?

Thanks & regards
