ᐅ We are not satisfied with the wooden staircase (possibly beech).

Hello,

we don’t like the color of the existing staircase. I assume it is beech. We would really like a white staircase (steps and railing).

I have attached a photo of how it looks now. Is it possible to sand the staircase and apply a white glaze or stain? So that the grain remains visible or shows through?

Regards,
Volkmann

Is it even possible to dismantle the staircase?...

You would have to evaluate that yourself, as it is your responsibility since you are the one planning to carry out the work...

The staircase will be glued together, using dowel joints and individual support points in the stair wall. So: Taking it apart and reassembling it seems unrealistic.

But how can it then look good? I can only advise against it—without disassembling, I don’t think it will look good.

The other option is to hire a staircase specialist who can take the stairs apart, modify them, and then reassemble them.

Since we didn’t like beech wood either and preferred darker wood, we consulted with the staircase specialist. Walnut was too expensive for us. The alternative was beech stained dark.

A wood expert will probably recognize that it’s beech, but we like it because it no longer looks like ordinary beech.

We had the staircase specialist bring the same stain because we stained beech boards in the same color, installed LED lights in them, and used them as hallway lamps. However, the boards definitely don’t appear as evenly stained as the stair treads.

So, I would be cautious about doing it yourself, as the stairs might end up looking worse than before.
