Hello everyone, I have noticed on several MALM dressers from IKEA that the finish, especially on the edges, tends to peel or flake off over time. I’m interested in understanding what could cause this. Is it a material issue, improper manufacturing, or perhaps external factors like moisture or mechanical stress? The dressers are in a dry room and are used normally, yet the wear is more noticeable on the edges. Are there common weak points with MALM furniture or tips on how to prevent this? I look forward to your experiences and explanations!
I am very familiar with the issue of paint peeling at the edges! For me, using a bit of clear varnish and edge sealant has made a significant improvement. 🙂 This is a common weak point, especially with Malm dressers, but there is a lot you can do yourself. It’s important not to clean the dresser with too much moisture and to avoid impacts. A little maintenance really pays off and greatly extends both the lifespan and appearance. So, no worries—you can definitely manage this! :-)
