Hello everyone,
I am planning to build an extension to the garden side of my small terraced house, where our living room will be located. The plot is only 4 meters (13 feet) wide, and the extension is supposed to be 3.20 meters (10.5 feet) long. I want to use as narrow a brick as possible on the right and left sides next to the neighbors in order to not lose too much interior space.
What would be the best choice regarding thermal insulation? Can I use an 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) brick, or would a 17.5 cm (7 inches) or even a thicker one be better for durability and insulation? Could you recommend a relatively good brick that is narrow but has good thermal properties?
Best regards,
Axel

ok, thanks for the help.
I still have concerns because the sewer pipe, which is slightly deeper than 80cm (31.5 inches), is located exactly where our extension ends. The pipe would then be directly under a part of the 80cm (31.5 inches) deep cast foundation. Is this a problem? Will the load be distributed, or could the concrete pipe be damaged?
