ᐅ What screw lengths are suitable for different materials when assembling IKEA Metod cabinets?

I am planning to assemble an IKEA Metod kitchen and will be screwing together different materials, including particleboard, MDF, and laminate fronts. I am wondering what screw lengths are best to ensure a secure hold without causing the materials to split or result in excessive waste. I am especially interested in how the screw length should ideally correspond to the thickness of the different types of panels, and whether there are specific recommendations for the Metod system, for example regarding the cabinet carcass versus the fronts. Are there practical rules of thumb or experiences that can help make installation easier and prevent damage? What differences should I consider when choosing screw lengths depending on the material?

For fronts, 20-25 mm (about 0.8-1 inch) is recommended, otherwise they tend to crack.

That was exactly my experience with laminate fronts. Using a screw that is a bit too short doesn’t cause cracks, but one that is too long can quickly damage the surface. Especially with the delicate Metod kitchen, it’s better to choose a screw that is a size shorter.
