ᐅ When to Scratch Coat Render

Hello everyone,

I recently plastered my first small wall using a scratch coat finish. It looks really perfect, but there was also some luck involved. I’m still not sure about the ideal timing for smoothing with the foam float.

I had the problem that I rubbed some areas completely flat, even though I didn’t apply much pressure.

Substrate: Primed cement-lime plaster.

My question is: After how many minutes (approximate) should you start smoothing, and how long should you continue smoothing?

Apply mineral render evenly to grain thickness and move it so that the grains roll or tip, depending on the type.
