If I had to set some boundaries here, I would say that modern home building often relies on modern materials... after all, these allow for entirely new architectural freedom, and that is probably what defines modern home construction.

There is no single modern style in house building; a current trend might be the square Tuscan style with a hipped roof. Sometimes, people try to create a modern look with random bay windows and roof projections or recesses, but this usually comes across as awkward—much like unsuccessful attempts to incorporate elements from "old" houses.
