So, this is our first topic here. We want to build a house but don’t know much. 😉
We appreciate any advice. We’re not sure what’s best—whether to buy an older house and renovate it or to go for a new build.
What kind of support is available and what options are there... There’s a lot to consider. We only know that the total cost should not exceed 250,000 €.
Best regards

If it's a new build combined with the plot, like those prefabricated houses or one that needs renovation due to its condition. Just for your information: (Good) prefabricated houses are usually somewhat more expensive than solid construction.
Just as a quick note...
When building a new house, you should budget around €1300 per square meter (approximately $140 per square foot). So, for a 140 square meter (1500 square feet) house, that would be about €182,000.
That leaves around €68,000 for:
The plot of land (!!)
Notary fees
Property transfer tax
Surveying costs
Utility connections
Construction electricity
Construction water
Insurance
Outdoor areas/garden
Paving
Carport/garage
Kitchen
Painting work
Fittings
Contingency
Painting work
Just so you know, the incidental construction costs alone already add up to around €22,000. I don’t know where you plan to build, but if we estimate €100 per square meter (about $9 per square foot) for a 420 square meter (4500 square feet) plot, that would add another €42,000.
That totals roughly €64,000, and that’s that…
But: for €250,000, you could probably consider a used property; a new build, on the other hand, I can almost rule out…
