Or would a watertight light well be better?

Hello everyone, we are currently planning our basement and I’m not sure whether we should choose one and, if so, which type would be best. Can anyone give us some advice? I would be grateful for any tips 🙂 Best regards

Hello häuslebauer79,

I have read that watertight light wells resistant to hydrostatic pressure are more expensive and always require maintenance of the water drainage system. If the groundwater level rises too much, their closing valve shuts automatically.

Watertight windows resistant to hydrostatic pressure are cheaper, and supposedly it is not a problem if some water backs up in the drainage. They are like portholes on a ship.

Hmm, I know about pressure-waterproof service shafts, but pressure-waterproof basement windows would be new to me. You probably mean "flood-resistant" basement windows? Those would only be necessary if the person asking the question is building near a river/lake/sea that is prone to recurring flooding.

Kind regards
