Hello,
We have found a building plot in the middle of a town. The plot is a meadow where water often accumulates. Regular single-family houses are located very close by.

Is the water an issue? The person who usually mowed the meadow said that every time he mowed, it felt like a different plot because the contour seems to change constantly. The plot is completely flat and at street level.

A soil survey will be conducted before the purchase.

Wait for the soil survey report.

There can be 100 possible causes for this and just as many different solutions. It can range from very affordable to "unaffordable."

Clay soil... groundwater layers... as Mottenhausen says, there can be many causes. However, I suspect it will be related to this.

The water itself is not the problem, but rather the potential costs involved in building there. However, only a geotechnical survey can tell you that.

Are you planning to build in our town? There is a plot of land available, but I would never want to build there. The risk is too high for me. It is an old, established area where no one has built for generations. In my opinion, the earlier settlers already knew why. Around it are single-family houses or farms, but nothing on this meadow.

Oh, it’s Saarland, then not near us.
Still, I would be cautious and wait for the soil survey before making any decisions. Please share the results here!

Install proper drainage. I am not aware of the costs, but it shouldn’t be very expensive.
