Hello,

I am currently gutting my bathroom so that a tiler can install new tiles. I have now removed the old tiles – is this what it should look like?

What type of tile adhesive was used here?
Does this need to be removed as well?

This layer is about 3 cm (1.2 inches) thick, and behind it you can see brickwork.

The tiles were installed using the thick-bed method. In this case, you will usually need to remove the mortar completely in order to lay new tiles.

It was agreed with the tiler that I would remove the old tiles and he would install the new ones. (I do the gutting) Does the removal also include taking out the thick-bed mortar?
