Dear community,

While researching patio roofs, we moved away from glass roofs toward a louvered roof.

Who among you has also chosen a louvered roof and would be kind enough to share your experiences?

Another point is the orientation of the louvers and thus the direction they tilt. Our patio faces directly south. (See attached photos).
From our perspective, the louvers should run from the house wall toward the south, so they can tilt from east to west. Or are we mistaken? 🙂

Thank you.

Hello, I recommend a louvered roof from Warema. They offer a 5-year warranty. Alternatively, consider Rensson or Brustor.

We have one from Pratic Brera in Italy. It is a motorized louvered roof that broke down completely. It was repaired but broke again. A disaster, really. It leaks badly... and this is supposed to be a premium manufacturer. You’re welcome to inspect it with me in Hannover. The installation company from eastern Germany was excellent and has installed over 50 louvered roofs, but only 4 from this particular manufacturer due to various issues.

There is hardly any price difference compared to well-known brands. Two well-known manufacturers were actually much cheaper, and one was just under 1000 euros (about 1070 US dollars) more expensive. I definitely chose the wrong one.

Just a thought..

If you are considering glass or slatted roofing because you worry the interior might be too dark, I can reassure you. From the photo, it looks like you have many other windows on the floor, including on the sides. That provides plenty of natural light inside the house. We have a south-facing terrace with a fixed roof measuring 8m x 4m (26 ft x 13 ft) across the entire width of the house, made of metal with a white subframework underneath. Not a single guest has ever found our room too dark. In winter, the sun is low enough that the light reaches far into the room. And with the summers we have, such a roof is a real dream!

Our contact person was at the house yesterday. We discussed the final details, and he took measurements. I don’t have any personal experience. We came across the company because my wife didn’t want a glass roof. The louvered roof of some friends has been installed for a few weeks now. They are satisfied. However, it’s not long-term experience.

Thanks for the input. That’s really reassuring. 🙂
