Hello everyone!
We have purchased a semi-detached house in shell condition. During the inspection phase for the wooden staircase, it became clear that the clear width is below the DIN standard 18065, specifically less than 80 cm (31.5 inches). We are looking for a solution with the construction company but would like to ask the forum how much price reduction in euros we might expect if no solution can be found. Just for your information: the only possible solution would be to widen the stairwell afterwards by reducing the stairwell opening.
What kind of price reduction in EUR should be considered here?
Thank you very much!

Please share the detailed construction plans for the staircase here. Ideally, include the shell construction dimensions according to the existing plans.
This cannot be a hidden defect that would justify a price reduction.

We have 90cm (35 inches) with a 90° turn at the bottom, and even then, it was a real challenge to carry long cabinet parts or moving boxes upstairs. A moving box is about 600mm (24 inches) long, so with an 800mm (31.5 inches) stair width, there’s barely enough space left for the hands carrying it...
The same applies to emergency exits: the wider, the better. Just because you meet the minimum requirement doesn’t mean everything is ideal 😉
