Hello everyone,

I only have very basic KNX knowledge and am gradually trying to learn more as we plan our house.

A quick question for the experts:

Am I correct in understanding that Gira is planning updates this year to make Alexa and Sonos directly compatible with the X1? So, Alexa would work indirectly via the S1, and the Sonos system would connect directly?

Both are already present in our current household, and if they could be integrated in a reasonably straightforward way, I wouldn’t mind at all.

Perhaps a related question… if we plan KNX in our house and don’t want a high-end solution (lighting, blinds, sockets), the X1 should be sufficient for me, right? Or are there significant reasons to justify the much higher price of the homeserver?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, but that is more in the DIY area... Not that it doesn't have its niche (it is also used by us).

Oh man. I was really excited that the X1 was supposed to support Sonos, but then I read that the update won’t come until October. With Gira, that means it will be around Christmas.

I got the Hager IoT system for this, but I’m not very happy with it yet, as it offers too few key outputs (KOs). Switching favorites isn’t that simple (each favorite is controlled via a separate group address), and the speaker’s status is output through a 14-byte datapoint. On/off would have been enough to provide a button with the necessary status. Instead, it outputs “Playing/Stopped.”

Christmas is in 9 months tomorrow... that’s quite something

Since we’re only starting construction next year... this still feels early enough to me... who knows what might happen between now and then

That’s the right attitude... and not fixating on brand names. Anything with the KNX logo can be installed.
