the development plan states the following:
Cross gables may exceptionally be allowed up to a maximum of one-third of the building length if they are constructed on the side facing away from the street.
My questions regarding this:
- What exactly does "side facing away from the street" mean?
- If I am standing on the street, does this refer only to the back of the house or also to the left and right sides?
- Is there a building code or similar regulation where the term "side facing away from the street" is defined?

Hello,
the side facing away from the street is the rear of the house.
What is your ridge orientation planned as? If it runs parallel to the street, then there can be no cross gable on the sides.
If your ridge runs perpendicular to the street (meaning the main gable faces the street), then a cross gable is probably not possible.

Windmuehle27 Jul 2011 14:07Hello,
The ridge runs perpendicular to the street in my case; a cross gable could only be added on the left or right side (as seen from the street). I had assumed that the left and right sides of the house are also facing away from the street, even if only at a 90-degree angle???
