We have now contacted several local craftsmen, glass fabricators, and bathroom planners regarding shower walls. We need a simple shower wall and a two-sided shower enclosure (one glass panel, one glass door). The total glass area is about 3 meters (10 feet) in length by 2 meters (6.5 feet) in height, which equals 6 square meters (65 square feet).

The price quotes we received range from €5500 to €7000, which really surprised us. We had initially budgeted around €2000 to €3000. Is this normal, or what experiences have you had? Are there other options?

Overall, it has to be fair.
The local glazier cannot make you a pane for 170 EUR, that wouldn’t even cover the material.

5,000-7,000 EUR, however, is way beyond reasonable; those are probably "Just leave me alone, I can’t keep up anymore" quotes.

In Germany, you won’t get something like this from a professional company for under 2,500 EUR. You just have to see if it’s worth it to you. Otherwise, you order online, and then the stuff comes from Poland or somewhere else.

I have just requested a quote as well, but with installation no earlier than 6 months from now. It is a triple-glazed unit, 8mm (0.3 inches) toughened safety glass, totaling about 5 square meters (54 square feet) including delivery, installation, and materials, for a gross price of 2500€. This is an offer from a local glazier.

About a year ago, we paid nearly 1000 euros for a glass pane measuring 1.5 x 2 m (5 x 6.5 ft), including installation. I had obtained three quotes from local glaziers. The most expensive one wanted 1800 euros, and the other two were similar in price. We do a lot of the work ourselves, but I didn’t feel confident installing this myself. It took two people about two hours because the tiler did millimeter-precise work. Just getting the glass into the bathroom was quite a challenge.

Good morning,

I bought all the shower enclosures, also 1.6 x 2 m (5.25 x 6.5 ft), on eBay. Of course, they are made of tempered safety glass, and as a reference, I paid 220 euros for the 1.6 x 2 m (5.25 x 6.5 ft) walk-in panel in 2019 including shipping.

However, they would of course need to be self-installed.

Best regards

If you want it to fit well and last a long time, I would have it professionally done.

Last summer, I ordered from a local glazier (the last trade before moving in ;-) ).

A frameless glass shower, 2150mm (85 inches) high, with two panels painted on the back attached to the wall, and two freestanding parts. The shower is 900mm (35 inches) wide and 1400mm (55 inches) deep. Additionally, there was a large panel used as a cover for the toilet and sink (2072 x 1228mm) (82 x 48 inches) with many cutouts (also painted on the back).

In total, about 10 square meters (107 square feet) for €2966.08 including VAT.

We actually ordered this four times for our duplex with four residential units... maybe that’s why we got a discount?
