I have the following problem... We bought a house, and I made an opening from the living room to the conservatory. To support the original concrete ceiling (cast in place, not plastered) during this process, I had to cut holes into the ceiling and use steel pipe props. I also partially dismantled the old chimney. The living room ceiling is a suspended gypsum board ceiling, wallpapered with textured (woodchip) wallpaper.
I repaired the new holes in the ceiling caused by the renovation by aligning them with appropriate C- and U-profiles, direct hangers, and gypsum boards, matching the drywall ceiling.
Now my question is about the appearance of the ceiling. Is it possible to simply wallpaper over the existing textured wallpaper? Or could that cause problems? Or should the old wallpaper be removed first? Is that even possible without damaging the gypsum board? I imagine that would also be a tedious task!
