We are interested in a house built in 2006 by local craftsmen who are still operating today.
The house has a square floor plan and a hipped roof. During an inspection of the attic, I made the following observation:
The two main posts are mounted on a piece of wood? Why is that? Does anyone have a theory? I didn’t want to ask the owner any "uncomfortable questions" since there are many interested buyers.
The house appears to have no defects and is overall in excellent condition.

If it ever collapses, it definitely won't be because of that. Lucky you, if that's the only issue you encounter during the house construction 😀

For me, this would be a reason to take a very close look – the raised section is only nailed to the floor, and the stud is secured to the doubling with just one diagonal brace and a few nails. Whoever built this clearly had little understanding of the forces involved in roof construction and took a cheap shortcut. Who knows what the underlay membranes and other elements look like there.
