Hello everyone,
We are currently in the factory planning stage for our single-family house.
I am not a big fan of Somfy, so I would like to automate my blinds, roller shutters, garage door, and outdoor lights using the Shelly Pro series.
Has anyone had experience with this?
Best regards

Hi,
No, I don’t have any experience with the Shelly Pro series.
I have read in other comments from you that you don’t want KNX; can you explain why?
What speaks against the Shelly Pro series is:
- the price (in reality, it is not or not significantly cheaper than KNX or Loxone)
- Ethernet and Wi-Fi are both energy-consuming communication methods (and you want to use both?) -> power consumption
- you don’t have alternatives if problems arise in the distant future (at least I don’t know of any easy replacements)
If you calculate per channel or per double channel (for blinds, etc.), KNX suddenly doesn’t seem that expensive.
The initial investment is high (depending on whether software is purchased or not, and don’t underestimate gateway, power supply, etc. — cable installation is a double-edged sword depending on what you compare it to).
With Shelly devices, you are clearly on the DIY path — if you include DIY for KNX as well (software, self-installation, etc.), the costs get closer or eventually reach a crossover point, depending on how much you automate and include. (And yes, I am aware that learning ETS requires more effort than learning Home Assistant, Homematic, or many other systems — but not ten times as much!)
The most cost-effective version of automation (with some knowledge and care) will probably be wireless — here I would probably rely on Matter/Zigbee because it is relatively manufacturer-independent, wiring basically corresponds to standard wiring, and software effort is limited. (But if I were to buy a house and there was a DIY experimental solution installed, that would be a clear negative, not a positive!)
Alternatively, I see wireless Shelly devices here, especially with a view to potential Matter integration!
Otherwise, Homematic comes into play, but for me that only applies if the automation is very limited — again, the more channels, the more KNX becomes price-competitive. In addition, you are again tied to one manufacturer, which I find very unattractive.
I don’t want to start a battle; Loxone is an option, with its pros and cons. It’s widespread.
Regards
