Hello everyone,
I’ll try to keep it brief; I’ll write a more general post later.
Due to a recent attempted break-in, I want to equip our house with security technology. I was planning to do this anyway, but we are still renovating; we bought the house a year ago. We have a dog, but I also want to add some electronics.
Our old house has new windows throughout the upper and ground floors (security class 2) and a secure front door. In addition, every one of the (many) windows has electric aluminum exterior shutters. I am currently replacing the old windows in the basement. The house has two secondary entrances (old wooden doors with locks) that lead into the basement or garage (and from there into the house). The weak point is the basement/garage area, so that’s where I want to start.
I want to begin setting up a sensible and cost-effective (cost-benefit) security system. My problem is the variety of offers available, and when I finally decide on something, there are always downsides—like suddenly needing a monthly subscription, and so on.
I’d like to summarize what I want, and maybe someone can give me a tip.
- The system should be expandable
- Both Wi-Fi and wired LAN connections are possible
- Camera systems
- Glass break sensors or opening sensors? I’m not sure which is more effective for PVC (uPVC) windows. We have both fixed panes and windows that open
- Management and notifications via an app/on a smartphone
These are the rough key points; does anyone have a recommendation? System type / brand / complete solution? Where should I start, what else is important? I don’t want to become a security expert, just build up a sensible system over time without needing much technical knowledge. I think you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance for reading, and I look forward to some responses.
Best regards,
Tim
