Hello,

my building savings contract recently suggested that I should insist on a roof structure built without wood preservatives when working with the general contractor. I had never really thought about this until he mentioned that opinions on the subject are currently divided, but he personally prefers the construction method without them. I understood that in most cases the wood is then simply better suited architecturally and more sealed.

So now the roof structure in the detailed plans is specified according to DIN 68800 without wood preservatives. However, I have also read that moisture during the construction phase alone can cause untreated wood to develop mold.

Now I’m not sure what to do. I couldn’t find any information online either. Does anyone have any advice?

Inside or outside?

Now, the issue with construction moisture is neither entirely right nor wrong. It is true that a significant amount occurs, but your attic should already be sealed when the screed drying process begins... unless you are planning an exposed roof structure.

However, in most cases, no wood preservative is necessary in the interior areas.
