Hello everyone,
As a newcomer here and owner of an older house since July 2016, I am now facing an almost unsolvable problem with my home. A sill beam running from the utility room to the bathroom is extremely rotten and damaged and therefore needs to be replaced.
Since this is the older part of the house and the walls there are the thinnest, we built new walls inside. These are not yet finished all the way to the top, which made me wonder if it might be possible to keep the old sill beam in place but install a new sill beam on top of the new masonry to support the rafters.
We had already assigned a carpenter to replace it, but after asking about an appointment, he never called back, and so far I haven’t found a replacement.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello!
If I understand correctly, I believe this won't be that simple from a structural point of view.
The existing sill beam supports everything above it, so the load coming from above would need to be redirected onto the new sill beam. Your additionally constructed interior walls are probably non-load-bearing, so the main load would still rest on the old, rotten component.
Best regards,
Dirk Grafe
