Hello everyone!

Our house is a detached single-family home built in 1999, fully brick-faced. After 18 years, the silicone sealant around the plastic windows has become brittle and is likely leaking – so I want to replace it.

At first, I thought about hiring a company for the job. In the meantime, I have replaced several interior seals myself, which worked well using sealant guns ("Fugis"). I should mention, though, that I am by no means a skilled tradesperson.

Unfortunately, sealing companies charge high prices when replacing all the seals on windows and patio doors. Now I’m wondering if I could do it myself. However, the sealant guns probably work best when applied to smooth surfaces (for example, inside between the windowsill and frame). Outside, with a rough brick surface, I imagine it would be more difficult…

What do you recommend for this, or how do professional companies handle such work?

Thanks in advance!

Once Sille, always Sille. Nothing else sticks. Do not use PU, even though it is more durable. Grout, keep a small bowl of soapy water ready, not too dilute in the mixture. Smooth with a wet finger, done. Karsten
