How realistic is it to install PVC flooring yourself in rooms smaller than 18m² (194ft²) without prior experience, using adhesive tape?
Plan: Lay it down, roughly cut it to size (leaving about 5-10% excess at the edges, almost cutting into the corners), weigh down half of it, fold up one side, and work the adhesive tape from the center outwards. Then make the final cuts at the corners and trim the edges. Repeat the process for the other half.
I installed carpet like this decades ago, which was straightforward. But with PVC, imperfections are probably more noticeable. Also, the rooms will be used by small children who might drag things across the floor with some force.
Is this feasible, or will I regret it?

The floor has a 0.4mm (0.02 inch) wear layer, so it’s a slightly thicker quality overall (not just the wear layer, but the entire PVC). Beneath it is a very old linoleum layer. The price was low since it was a special clearance item, so the quality is probably mid-range.
I don’t want to glue it down over the entire surface, mainly because I want to avoid the hassle if it ever needs to be removed. The rooms are over 4m (13 feet) long and over 3m (10 feet) wide. Hmm, gluing in the middle and at the corners is also an option—I will take a closer look at that.
Thanks especially for the tip to lay it down and let it rest; I’ll try that despite the tighter schedule.
But for now, I’ll give it a shot. If the first room still looks acceptable on day one, I’ll continue… and curse if it doesn’t hold up later.
