Hello dear house-building community,

we have now built our own home and are happy and satisfied with it. Now we want to start beautifying the garden, and from spring onwards we plan to decorate our garden with a pavilion. I wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with assembling and securing a pavilion? The ground is currently just grass and soil.

What kind of foundation would you recommend?

Thank you all

What kind of gazebo? Material, size, design...

... and what do you plan to do under the pavilion? Bench and table, sandbox, grill, or a shelter for an elephant?

Hi everyone,

First of all, thanks for your responses. This is the piece we want: link removed by moderation; building expert, and we have already ordered it and are just waiting for delivery. The material is iron, and it weighs nearly 200 kg (440 lbs) in total.

We’re concerned that it might be too heavy for a soil base, as it will probably sink once it rains. We also want to possibly create a seating area underneath, so it would likely be better to have a stable foundation. We just don’t know whether wood or stone would be better, or if there might be other options.

What would you suggest?

In my opinion, natural stone paving fits very well with this material (wrought iron) for the seating area. For the pavilion, I would probably drive in three ground anchors and secure the pavilion with ropes/loops.
