Hello!

We have been searching for our dream home for some time now! Since we haven’t found the right property for us yet, we have spent the last few days discussing the topic of building a house.

While looking for real estate in our area, we kept coming across offers from construction companies (like Town & Country, Allkauf Haus, etc.) that sell prefab houses INCLUDING the land. This is interesting for us, as we don’t yet own a plot of land.

Of course, we also told our family and friends that we are interested in a prefab house that we can finish the interior ourselves.

Unfortunately, some of the older folks immediately said that prefab houses are just rubbish, worthless, and that there is a lot of bad talk about them. Is that really true?

What are the downsides of a prefab house?
What advantages does a prefab house have? What disadvantages come with it?

We would really appreciate any answers!

Best regards

I see the prefabricated house as a comprehensive all-in-one solution. So far, I have had no regrets.

May I ask which company you built with?
Is the prefabricated house constructed with a timber frame, timber panel system, or concrete?
Did you do the interior finishing yourself?

Tomorrow we will visit model homes from Haas Fertigbau, a company we really like and with whom several friends and acquaintances have already had good experiences.

Even though this thread is a bit older, I would like to add something because we built with Massa Haus...

Hello, Massa Haus requires a trailer hitch because the homeowner has to pick up the finishing packages themselves at the hardware store, in my opinion Praktiker.

That is not true. We had all the finishing packages (insulation, drywall, heating, and sanitary) delivered to the house as ordered. At no extra cost. Of course, we had to carry everything inside ourselves, but we did not need a trailer hitch!

Then you probably did not build with Massa Haus. It certainly was not an all-in-one worry-free package for us. But you grow with your challenges, and today I am glad I took that path. From the construction start date to moving in was 3 1/2 months, with everything except screeding, electrical work, and tiling done as DIY.

Was a blower door test with leak detection also conducted?

Here are some houses that are very affordable. Ideal for the weekend. I believe they are suitable for a small family.

Small wooden house with laminated facade, terrace with two lounge chairs on grass.
