Hello,

I have two garages next to my apartment, and I want to convert one of them into living space. The partition wall between the garages is only 11 cm (4.3 inches) thick, and with the renovation, it will become a partition wall between the apartment and the garage.
1. Is the wall compliant with building codes, or does it need to be thicker for fire protection reasons (Hamburg building regulations)?
2. Does the wall need to be insulated according to energy-saving regulations?
I would prefer to leave the wall as it is. But of course, the laws must be followed.

You must be joking, right?

Best regards

Hello,

no, I am completely serious. I don’t have the funds for a renovation according to today’s standards. The plan is to partially wall up the garage door, install a window, add a connecting door to the apartment, and pour a screed floor.
What is the legal situation?
I need more storage space. Large cabinets will be placed in the new room. The space will not be heavily heated, so heating costs should be kept low.
