ᐅ Painting Mertod Kitchen Cabinets – What is the Best Method?

Hello,

we have a very nice, almost like-new Metod front kitchen that we would like to keep for a while longer. A few years ago, we set up a separate kitchen island with two wall cabinets above it, used as a display cabinet. These also have Metod fronts.

Our Metod fronts are white (silk matte), with rounded corners and a light gray trim applied at the top and bottom.

The white color of the kitchen is still as bright as on the first day, and the kitchen is in excellent condition—except for the display cabinet. It has narrow Metod side trims on the right and left, and only these have yellowed, which makes them look different from the clean and bright white of the other cabinets.

My question:
Is it possible to paint these side Metod trims using a paint roller? And if so, what type of paint would be best? Is any surface preparation needed, and if yes, with what?

I have heard that this can be tricky because the coating might peel off.

Has anyone had experience with this and can provide reliable advice? I am looking for input based on personal experience, not guesses or assumptions.

Thank you very much for your help.
I’m glad to have found this forum, as we have been satisfied Ikea customers for many decades.

Best regards,
Seoul

Great, then I apologize.
My wife and I share the same view and always handle everything around us with care. That’s why many things in our home still look almost new even after years.
