Good evening,

We had painting work done in our semi-detached house (6 months old). The company responsible is driving us crazy.

There were constant disputes during the work. The workmanship was poor beyond belief. Listing all the defects would be too much here. We specifically paid an extra fee to ensure the highest quality of workmanship.

After the work was completed, we had the master painter come to inspect it himself. After looking at the work in the first room, he was immediately willing to reduce the price by €2,000. We also noticed that several items were overcharged, in some cases almost double the actual work done.

Now we have been living in the house for half a year and find ourselves frustrated almost daily with the poor quality of the work. The condition is actually getting worse, and I am not referring to the inevitable cracks that occur as the house settles.

We specifically requested a smooth sanding and the application of painting fleece. This was supposed to be painted twice. By now, we doubt this was done, as many areas show no sign of paint coverage. Additionally, the paint has been applied very thickly, so the surface of the fleece, which was expected to be smooth, almost resembles textured wallpaper. Every seam from the installation is clearly visible.

My question: Is it still possible to determine afterward (for example, through an expert appraisal) whether it was actually painted twice (this was separately charged at a high cost)? Is the thick layer of paint considered a defect?

We don’t trust the brothers anymore and will probably consult an expert.

Thank you very much for any helpful responses!
