Now I have the problem that the water meter is mounted on an exterior wall, and the supply pipe comes about 50 cm (20 inches) out of the ground (PE pipe). There is no basement, so it is on the ground floor. The water meter itself is already defective—the dial is broken—and soon someone from the water supplier will come to install a new one.
The main issue is that we don’t plan to start building for about 5 years, and until then I don’t need water. I told the water supplier to shut off the water at the street to be safe, so nothing would burst. Then they said that after 5 years it would be considered a new connection (because the valve would be reopened???? ... very strange).
When the technician arrives, I’ll ask him again. But how could I still protect the meter? Would simply wrapping it with 160 mm (6 inches) Rockwool insulation or styrofoam be enough?
Best regards, Ronny
