I currently have some downtime at my construction site until the windows are installed, and I had a crazy idea—why not use a soft sports floor as a terrace surface?

What kind of material is that usually?

What would something like that cost for, say, the standard 4.5 x 6 m (15 x 20 ft) area?

I imagine it comes in a variety of looks.

Is there anything that would be a major reason not to do this?

Has anyone had experience with this (not necessarily as a terrace surface)?

Try searching for keraflex. That might work. However, it requires an existing surface.

Fall protection surfacing
For example from Pegasoft... I could imagine this as an option if you have a few thousand square meters (square yards) of land or a driveway. But I don’t think it looks good for a terrace. I’m not sure what speaks against it, probably just the appearance... do you like it?

@Tolentino:
Certainly, everything is a matter of personal taste, and the budget also plays an important role.
Besides the manufacturers and products already mentioned, REGUPOL (Berleburger Schaumstoffwerke) is another option worth checking in their product range.
If you ask about the disadvantages, based on experience it is often the lack of electrical conductivity of such materials.
You might be surprised and wonder why.
In recent years, I have dealt with several cases where electrostatic charge on people reached up to 4 kV, making it difficult to use the surface under certain climatic conditions.
This applied to artificial turf as well as electrically insulating mats made from PUR-bound rubber recyclate.
So the question is whether installing a soft sports flooring suitable for outdoor use on the terrace is really a good idea, especially if you don’t want to keep the surface permanently moist by watering it (which would prevent these issues).
Wishing you a good decision:

Well, I don’t find it any uglier than concrete slabs, at least. But I gather that it’s probably not exactly cheap. So it’s likely not an option anyway.
Thanks, I’ll take a look at the different manufacturers.
