Is there an alternative to the Telekom connection?
We rarely use a landline phone and internet at home. Is there a practical alternative to access the internet at home and occasionally receive faxes?

Cable connection?
Mobile internet depending on reception...

And then it really gets tight for alternatives, unless there is a local network.

I assume you want to keep the monthly costs low due to limited usage? I would get a month-to-month internet stick with the smallest included data volume and the option to top up occasionally if needed. You can now send a fax over the internet, but you will need a scanner for that.
