Hello,

I’m curious about how old a building or house needs to be in order to be designated as a heritage or listed building. Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

Age is not decisive

hi tomcat,

whether a building is protected as a historic monument does not necessarily depend on its age. A monument is generally any object that is significant for human history or for cities and settlements, and whose preservation is therefore in the public interest.

hi,

it should also be mentioned that not only houses or private properties can be listed as historic landmarks, but also old factories, bridges, and so on...

Hi,

I’m wondering if trees can be placed under monument protection, or if there is a different term for that? It seems to me that I’ve seen the label "monument protection" on some old trees in the city, but I’m not entirely sure.
Do you know anything about this?

Hi!

It probably depends on the tree’s history. If there are historical events directly related to the tree, it is quite possible that the tree could be placed under heritage protection. Also, if it has shaped the appearance of a city for decades, that might be a reason as well.
