Hello everyone,

I own several IKEA Malm furniture pieces, mainly dressers and nightstands. I have noticed that their surfaces tend to become susceptible to scratches, water stains, and general wear over time. Since the furniture is quite affordable, I want to keep it in good condition for as long as possible.

My question is: What practical care tips or treatments can you recommend to make IKEA Malm furniture more durable?

I am especially interested in surface care methods, moisture protection, and general advice on preventing damage. Are there any specific cleaning products that work well, or how often should maintenance be done?

Thank you in advance for your expertise!

I’m curious: How often do you use your furniture heavily, for example in the study or living room, and are they subjected to heavy wear?

Thank you for your follow-up question. The Malm dressers are mainly placed in the bedroom and are mostly used for clothing, meaning they are in daily use but under moderate stress. However, I often place glasses or vases on them, and that’s exactly when I noticed the first water rings.

Your assessment regarding the plastic laminate coating is helpful. I will try a mild cleaning product for laminates, but definitely test it first on a hidden spot.

It would also be interesting to know if special felt pads or something similar on the furniture feet can provide significant protection when the furniture is moved. Are there any recommendations for this?
