Hello everyone,

since this is quite a specific topic, I am starting a new thread.

I have a Rotex HPSU 508/8KW heat pump. This unit has a 500-liter (132-gallon) storage tank and is prepared for solar integration. The piping is already in place in the attic.

As I mentioned before, I have a shed roof facing north. For this reason, I would like to install the solar collectors directly on the facade, preferably flat and not angled, for aesthetic reasons.

Now, the heating engineer just told me that the solar system uses plain water instead of antifreeze, which is common in other systems to prevent freezing in winter. He said I would have to drain the system during winter. Also, only Rotex collectors can be used for this system.

Is this really the case?

I would prefer to use tube collectors, especially because of the vertical installation, but apparently, Rotex does not offer these.

What should I do in winter if the sun does shine? Is it possible to fill the system again temporarily?

It would be great if someone could share their experience operating such a system.

Best regards,
Tobi
