ᐅ LED Stair Lighting Spacing for Curved Staircases

Hello everyone,

During a discussion with the electrician, we decided on stair lighting using 1-watt LEDs. Four LEDs are planned for each staircase. The electrician suggested placing them at equal intervals.

We were on vacation for two weeks, and the electrician has already started the work. However, the spaces between the lights are not evenly distributed. He installed a socket for the LED every three stair steps, but because of the curved shape of the staircase, the distances vary. I have included images to illustrate the situation.

After consulting with the electrician, it is still possible to reposition the sockets at this stage. He mentioned, however, that if all LEDs are spaced equally, not every “full step” will be illuminated, which might look odd. I still believe that equal spacing would look better. The electrician suggested that we review the arrangement together on site and decide then. To be well prepared for this meeting, I have the following question:

Has anyone had similar experiences or the same issue and can offer good advice or recommendations on how to arrange the LEDs?

Best regards,
ConnyJash

Hello @Araknis,

the topic is a bit old, but we just came across the picture with the illuminated handrail.
We are currently looking for an illuminated handrail.
The one in the picture looks very nice.
Could you tell me which model / manufacturer it is? Are you still satisfied with it?

This is not my house; it was just a Google image.

However, I have already used this in several projects, and everyone was satisfied. Usually, the carpenter handled it there, so it is not a finished product. The fact that the lighting is dimmable and adjusts brightness based on the time of day (via KNX) continues to please the occupants to this day. I also don’t see any reason why one would become dissatisfied with it over time. Personally, what would annoy me in the long run are the spotlights with only 3-4 brightness levels; that still bothers me in every house where I see them.

Thank you for your feedback.
I thought the picture was from your house 😉.
So my question about whether you are satisfied was more about the wood and the handrail itself.
We are convinced about the lighting, but online you often see handrails mounted on handrail brackets, with the electrical wiring running through them.
Visually, I preferred the handrail in your picture better.

That depends solely on the skills of the carpenter. Anything is possible with the right expertise and the insertion of coins.
