Hello,

we are planning to build a house and are unsure whether to build to KfW 40 or KfW 60 standard. Is it possible to estimate the difference in construction costs, or how is this usually handled?

The KfW40 standard refers to improved insulation and building systems, which results in lower energy consumption but higher costs.
The easiest approach is to commission an energy saving regulation certificate during the house planning phase. This way, you will better understand which materials are required and what the costs will be.

Calculate which option is more cost-effective in the long run.

Interest/Repayment + Energy Costs

KfW40: Higher interest/repayment / Lower energy costs
KfW60: Lower interest/repayment / Higher energy costs

However, consider rising energy prices and also take a look at DIN276 for further details.

So, does this mean we have no idea here and won’t give you any advice? 😀

No, it’s definitely a good idea to have a professional handle this for you.
