Hello everyone,

I am planning to convert my Ikea Besta shelving unit into a functional home office piece of furniture and wonder if there is already a guide or at least a well-structured set of instructions that specifically deals with converting the Ikea Besta shelving into a home office solution?

I imagine how the shelving components can be cleverly used to create work surfaces, possibly cable management, and storage for office supplies. Are there any experiences, recommendations, or even step-by-step tutorials that provide concrete guidance for such a conversion?

It would be great if someone has practical tips or ideas on how to turn the Besta into an ergonomic and functional home office unit without having to build everything from scratch. Thanks in advance!

I'm especially interested in how you handled cable management and how you ensured the stability of the worktop.

Great questions! 😃

For the worktop, I chose a very sturdy solid beech wood board, which I fixed to the sides of the shelving unit using self-adhesive brackets and extra screws. This keeps everything stable, even when you place heavier items on it.

Regarding cable management:
- Cable ducts with clips attached to the back panel
- Cable ties for bundling
- Power strip with a long cord behind the shelf

This way, your home office stays tidy, and you’ll never have to struggle with tangled cables again. Good luck with your renovation, it’s going to be awesome! 💪
