As I have learned here, a neighbor’s signature is required for building approval. So, I looked into our state building regulations, but the legal language didn’t help me much.

My question is more or less whether neighbor approval is always required in areas without a development plan (zoning plan). If so, what rights do the neighbors have? Do they have the right to reject everything outright?

Hello,
I guess neighbors always have the right to say no, but whether that leads to success is another matter. You can see this from the many lawsuits filed every year against airports or industrial facilities. If the construction project is considered important, neighbors usually cannot do much to stop it.

Well, a private construction project is naturally not in the public interest, which is why I have concerns. Given the dispute over the property with the neighbor, I can well imagine a refusal to sign. From a legal perspective, I would find it quite pointless if everyone were allowed to submit objections based on their own interests.

Neighbors can request modifications but generally cannot refuse a building altogether. Wherever you build a house, you will inevitably block someone’s view.

Hi,

I guess Huhn meant that when it comes to using a house, there are definitely things a neighbor doesn’t have to tolerate.
But basically, a neighbor can make life difficult for a builder if they keep filing objections!
