Hello everyone,

I am planning to get an IKEA PAX wardrobe, but there is a special consideration regarding installation: the walls in my apartment are made of drywall (gypsum board) with no visible wooden or metal studs, at least not where I want to mount the wardrobe. My question is:

Is it possible to securely attach IKEA PAX wardrobes to drywall so that they can withstand heavier loads and remain stable over time? What mounting methods or special anchors would you recommend for this? Are there any safety concerns or risks I should be aware of before installing such a large piece of furniture on drywall?

Thank you for your experiences and advice!

Install the anti-tip bracket at the bottom of the cabinet, preferably on the floor or attached to the wall, to prevent it from tipping over.

Exactly! No matter how well you reinforce drywall, a little extra safety never hurts.

I think it’s like wearing a bike helmet – even if you think you don’t need it, it provides protection if something goes wrong. 😉

My advice: if possible, use a combination of high-quality anchors and an additional anti-tip device. And if your floor is a bit flexible, also screw the safety bracket to an extra frame or strip on the floor. That way, you create a safety net for your cabinet – and for your peace of mind!
