We are both not very skilled at DIY, and painting by hand takes an incredibly long time ... and it doesn’t really look professional.

Do you have any experience with these spray systems?

I’ve read quite a bit about them but still don’t feel much wiser. Advice at the home improvement store seemed very sales-driven.

Advantages: supposedly much faster than using a roller, especially on ceilings, probably much easier than rolling?

Disadvantages: costs around 350 euros (about 370 USD), although some devices are somewhat cheaper. Online reviews often criticize the quality of the spray systems, mentioning poor application and nozzles clogging often.

What are your experiences?

So, this is definitely not suitable for unskilled DIYers. Even thoroughly masking off all areas that should not get paint is challenging. It requires a lot of time and patience. Wall paint is quite thick and doesn’t splatter easily. Smudges and similar issues are almost guaranteed. Cleaning the tools is quite a test of patience.
Yes, rolling the ceiling is also a bit of an art, but it’s definitely easier than dealing with splatters. Certainly. Karsten

An acquaintance swears by spraying, but only with professional equipment. Certainly not €350, but rather €2000 (about $2200) or more. These can be either rented or bought and then resold.

Personally, I find that difficult. When rolling, you can adjust with the next stroke. When spraying, you correct with another coat, and another, and another... "patches."
