Hello everyone,
I have an IKEA Malm chest of drawers that has recently started making a loud creaking noise every time I open or close the drawers. The sound seems to come from the drawer slides, possibly also from the wooden surfaces, but I’m not entirely sure. Since I don’t want to live with squeaky furniture in the long run and the creaking is quite annoying, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this problem and how to best fix the creaking. What maintenance products or methods do you recommend to get the mechanism running smoothly and quietly again? I would appreciate any tips, including explanations of possible causes! Thanks in advance.

Sometimes small "home remedies" can help – applying a thin layer of wax, such as candle wax, on the sliding surfaces. Although it might sound a bit old-fashioned, it often reduces friction and prevents squeaking.
If you don’t have silicone spray available, give this a try in a pinch 😉
Good luck with the repair!

Thank you for the tips on replacement and possible alternatives. I will first try the silicone spray and closely monitor the plastic parts.
If that doesn’t help, I will contact IKEA support regarding obtaining replacement parts.
I will update here once I have found a solution.

Update:
First of all: Most squeaking noises in Malm dressers can be resolved by cleaning the rails and applying targeted lubrication.
However, the issue with porous plastic guides should not be underestimated, as they can significantly affect the drawer’s movement. Replacement is therefore recommended.
Furthermore, I suggest being gentle during cleaning to avoid damaging paintwork and surfaces.

So, after thorough cleaning and careful application of silicone spray, I have significantly reduced the squeaking.
Unfortunately, the plastic parts are quite brittle; replacement seems to be the best option.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips! If anyone has any more advice, please feel free to share 🙂
