Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Malm bed that has recently started squeaking when I sit on the edge. The noise probably comes from the joints between the side panels and the headboard or footboard. I’m interested to know if anyone here has experience with this problem and how to reliably fix the squeaking. All the screws have been tightened, but the noise still occurs under pressure. Are there any special tricks or products to reduce the friction and the related noise? Thanks in advance for your tips!

I support the approach of first adjusting the slatted frame: If the frame is properly positioned when sitting, the movement of the bed frame is significantly reduced along with noise generation. Make sure that both the frame’s guides and the connections to the head and foot sections are completely free of play. Before using any lubricants, you should carefully check whether a deformed or damaged connecting part is causing the noise. In that case, replacing individual parts would be advisable.

Summary: Tighten screws properly, secure the slatted frame without play, use felt, and treat contact surfaces with wax. As long as there is no other damage, this is usually a long-lasting solution.
