Hello dear community,

I am about to furnish a new apartment and would like to put a Karlstad sofa in the living room.
I love sofas with chaise lounges and I would also like to have a sofa bed.

There is the 3-seat Karlstad sofa bed for just under 900 euros.
There is also the chaise lounge extension.
At Ikea, two different employees independently told me that these two cannot be combined.
The first time I was simply told, "no, it’s not possible."
The second time, I managed to get the sales assistant to admit that something might not fit properly. However, she couldn’t specify what, and from the displayed furniture, it was not obvious either.

What is clear: I would need to attach the bed frame guide to the chaise lounge. Easily done.

Could someone please, please, please confirm that they have done exactly this and reassure me so I can confidently purchase this combination?

Hello Tosoro,

were you able to manage the combination of the sofa bed and the chaise lounge? I am facing exactly the same issue...

Thanks and best regards

Hello,
if Tosoro has not activated the email notification, he probably won't see it. We will see.
Otherwise, from the installation instructions, I see no reason why it shouldn't work. I would buy both, carefully open the packaging, and first try it without covers to see if it works. If not, carefully pack it up again as it was and return it.

So, here is the answer: It doesn't work.

Mechanically, the base frame seems to fit the chaise lounge, as far as I can tell. The chaise lounge and side panel fit together anyway.

However, the problem is the upholstery, because it is one continuous piece running from one side panel over the backrest to the other side panel. Unless you have experience sewing heavily stressed fabrics, you're out of luck here. Everything is under considerable tension.
The upholstery from a "standard" 3-seater sofa cannot be used due to different padding.

Help: The ottoman! It is more flexible anyway.

Regards!

Thanks for the feedback. Learned something new again. My first thought was that you could use the upholstery from the regular sofa, but it is narrower than the bed version. How impractical.
