Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA BESTÅ shelving unit. One of the shelves in the middle section suddenly broke—more precisely, the particleboard cracked completely in one spot. The board is about 16 mm thick (0.6 inches) and seems to have split due to a localized overload. I hope I don’t have to replace the entire board but can somehow repair it, also because I’m not sure if I can simply order a replacement panel from IKEA.
My specific questions are:
- What materials and tools are best suited to repair a broken particleboard like this?
- Are there proven techniques to make the shelf stable enough after repair to continue bearing weight?
- Do I need to reinforce it from behind, or is it sufficient to glue the broken area with wood glue?
Maybe someone has practical experience or even a guide on the best way to fix this kind of damage on a BESTÅ. Thanks in advance!
