Hello everyone,

I recently noticed some scratches and small dents on my Ikea BRIMNES bed that I would like to repair as professionally as possible. Since the furniture has a coated surface, I’m unsure how to best fix these minor damages without further affecting the appearance or damaging the surface.

My question is: What are the best methods to repair light scratches and dents on Ikea BRIMNES furniture, which typically consist of MDF with a melamine coating?

Are there any specific repair kits, paints, or home remedies you would recommend?

It’s important to me that the repair remains inconspicuous and preserves the surface as much as possible. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

If the dents are not deep, furniture wax and a suitable touch-up paint pen often help.

Filler compounds and sanding are more suitable for larger damages.

So for small scratches, it's usually best to start with wax.

Could I recommend special filler compounds instead, or is it even worth it for such small dents?

Sure, fillers are great, but usually only necessary for dents about the size of a small coin or larger. For tiny dents, it’s better to gently cover them up and leave it at that! 😎

Wax is truly a magic solution for this kind of furniture, and if you seal it with clear varnish afterward, it will stay looking nice for longer.

I once had a nasty scratch on my Brimnes. The best result for me was with a combination product of wax and lacquer pen, specially made for laminate and melamine.

But it’s important: first clean thoroughly, then apply sparingly and immediately remove any excess material.

This way, the repaired spot becomes almost invisible!

One last tip from me: If you don’t have anything specific on hand, a color-matching felt-tip pen can work well for small scratches, followed by gentle rubbing and then a thin protective layer with furniture polish.

This often restores shine and effectively hides minor blemishes.

That way, you don’t have to nervously rush to buy an expensive repair kit. 😉
