Hello everyone,
I have a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA and want to place heavy decorative items in it, each weighing around 8 to 10 kilograms (18 to 22 pounds). My question is how to securely fasten such heavy decorations to or inside a KALLAX without damaging the shelves or making the unit unstable. Are there proven methods to reinforce the shelving and safely fix the decorations? Maybe special brackets, fastening techniques, or additional reinforcements?
I definitely want to avoid the shelf becoming unstable or, in the worst case, collapsing due to the weight. Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

Hello kai58,
you’ve already received many good tips – I would like to briefly summarize and add a few points:
1. Securing the unit to the wall is essential, as otherwise the KALLAX can tip over.
2. Replacing or reinforcing the back panel increases stability.
3. Position heavy items as low as possible and distribute the weight evenly.
4. For secure fixing inside the compartments, sturdy wooden or metal panels that can be screwed in are suitable.
The most important thing is not to underestimate the total weight and to prioritize safety. Another option is to experiment with weights and monitor the shelf closely afterwards.
If you have any questions about implementation with suitable materials, I’m happy to help again! 🙂
